Repsol in Spain

Upstream

As of December 31st, 2017, we owned mineral rights in Spain to 12 blocks: two exploration blocks with a net surface area of 798 km2 and 10 production/development blocks with a combined net surface area of 331 km2.

Mainly in the Casablanca, Lubina, and Montanazo Area in the Mediterranean Sea, Repsol produced, in 2017, a total of 0.6 mbbl and 0.2 bscf, which represents a combined production of 0.7 mboe (1,838 boe/d). Net oil reserves at the end of the year were estimated at 3.7 mboe.

Refining

We operate five refineries in Spain (Cartagena, A Coruña, Bilbao, Puertollano, and Tarragona), which operate as a single plant, the total distillation capacity of which was 896,000 barrels of oil/day in 2017.

Our refineries processed 41.9 million tons of crude in 2017, up 6.3% from 2016.

The average use of refining capacity was 94% in Spain, compared to 88% the previous year.

Throughout 2017, improvements were made in the refineries in Bilbao, investing in two new compressors for the FCC unit, and Cartagena, where several projects to improve energy efficiency in the crude unit, the Hydrocracker, and the Hydrogen unit were completed.

Service Stations

In 2017 we had a network of 3,445 service stations.

Aviation and direct sales

We are active in the area of direct sales and international aviation as fuel suppliers, performing into-plane operations at Barajas Airport in Madrid and El Prat in Barcelona through the service company Servicios Logísticos de Combustibles de Aviación (SLCA), in which we have a 50% stake.

Gas & Power

Our presence in Spain is focused on transportation, marketing, trading, and regasification of liquefied natural gas, managing all these activities from our headquarters in Madrid.

Chemicals

At Repsol we are market leaders of chemical products in the Iberian Peninsula.

Production in Spain is concentrated in two petrochemical complexes located in Puertollano and Tarragona. We also have different subsidiaries and affiliates, through which we have plants dedicated to the manufacture of polypropylene compounds and chemical specialty products, as well as synthetic rubber produced through Dynasol, a 50/50 alliance between Repsol and the Mexican group KUO, with plants in Lantarón and Gajan.

LPG and AutoGas

We are one of the leading liquefied petroleum gas retail distribution companies in Spain, where we distribute bottled and bulk LPG and AutoGas, and had over 4 million customers in 2017.

AutoGas (automotive LPG) is the most widely-used alternative fuel in the world, in over 26 million vehicles (more than 14 million in Europe).

Lubricants, Specialized Products, and Asphalts

We develop, manufacture and market oil-derived products for industrial sectors.

In September 2015 the ILBOC lubricants plant, a joint venture between SK and Repsol, was commissioned in Cartagena. This plant is the largest facility of new-generation lubricant bases in Europe.
